Job Description
Job title:  Junior Technical Engineer – Fleet Telematics Systems

Location: Eastern Free State (Remote + Client Sites)

Employment Type: Full-Time
Our client is seeking a Junior Engineer or Graduate Engineer to assist with the deployment and development of their telematics systems.

This role combines field engineering, system configuration, troubleshooting, and technical development. The successful candidate will work with clients to understand their needs, perform system installations, configure devices, and diagnose technical issues.

Depending on the candidate’s skills and interests, the role may also involve software development, system integration, or hardware design.

Qualification Requirements:

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • BTech / BEng / BSc in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering.

 

Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • Recent graduates with strong practical skills are encouraged to apply
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Solid understanding of electronics and electrical systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage field tasks
  • Good communication skills with clients
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Own Vehicle

Advantageous Skills (Beneficial, but not essential)

Experience in any of the following will be beneficial:

  • Telematics or fleet tracking systems
  • Python programming
  • Cloud or backend systems
  • Hardware or embedded development

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTPUTS:

Client Support & Requirements

  • Assess client requirements and assist in designing suitable technical solutions
  • Provide technical support and guidance during system deployment

System Installations & Configuration

  • Perform installations of tracking and monitoring equipment on client sites
  • Configure devices and ensure systems are operating correctly
  • Test installations and validate data

Debugging & Root Cause Analysis

  • Diagnose technical issues in deployed systems
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement solutions
  • Support ongoing system reliability and performance

Technical Development (Depending on Skills)

  • Assist with backend or frontend system development
  • Support integration and automation tasks
  • Contribute to hardware design and testing

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Combination of remote work and on-site client visits
  • Travel to farms and agricultural operations
  • Startup environment with opportunity for broad technical exposure

Candidates should preferably be based in or willing to relocate to the Eastern Free State, where most of our clients are located.
